Who We Are
Twenty years in the world's best hotels. Now, finding the homes worth knowing.

I learned hospitality in kitchens that didn't tolerate mediocrity. In hotels where the thread count mattered, but the warmth of a welcome mattered more. In dining rooms where the light was considered as carefully as the wine list.
New York taught me that service means knowing what someone needs before they ask. London showed me how luxury can be quiet. Madrid proved that excellence and warmth aren't opposites. Barcelona made me understand that design isn't decoration — it's how a space makes you feel.
Then I came home to Madeira. And I felt the gap.
Friends would visit and ask where to stay. The honest answer was complicated. There were extraordinary homes here — quintas with terraces facing the Atlantic, houses where the morning light made you want to stay in bed just to watch it move across the wall. But these places were buried. Lost in a sea of algorithm-optimised listings, competing with apartments that had nothing to say.
So we built something different. Not a platform that lists everything — a collection that chooses carefully. We visit every home. We sit on the terrace. We meet the people who live there. If it doesn't move us, it doesn't make the cut.
KIVO is what I'd tell a friend. The homes I'd actually book for my own family. The island knowledge that twenty years of coming back has given me.
The places that shaped how we think about hospitality:
Service as anticipation. The detail you notice only because it's missing elsewhere.
Understatement as luxury. Confidence without noise.
Warmth as a design choice. Hospitality that makes you feel known.
Light, texture, proportion. Space as experience.
What discerning travellers actually want — and what they don't say out loud.
We carry all of it with us. Every home we choose, every recommendation we make.
We're not interested in quantity. Most homes that apply don't make the collection. That's not elitism — it's honesty. When we say a home is worth your time, we mean it.
The restaurant with no website. The viewpoint the tour buses don't know. The winemaker who'll open his cellar if you ask the right way. We grew up here. We live here. That shapes everything.
Not the amenities. Not the listing photos. The feeling when you walk in and know this is exactly right. We choose homes run by people who understand that.

A Word From
Founder
I'm not from tech. I'm from hospitality. Twenty years of early mornings, demanding guests, and learning that the difference between good and exceptional is usually invisible until it's missing.
Michelin kitchens taught me precision. Five-star hotels taught me that luxury is a feeling, not a price point. Coming home to Madeira taught me that the best places are often the hardest to find.
Every home in this collection, I've walked through. I've sat on the terrace and watched the light change. I've talked to the owners and understood why they built what they built.
When you book through KIVO, you're not trusting an algorithm. You're trusting my eye, my standards, my twenty years of knowing what makes a stay worth remembering. I don't take that lightly.

The collection grows slowly. One home at a time, one story at a time. If you're here early, thank you for trusting what we're building.
